In that regard, hell no, the current pace isn't sustainable, and it has . .

gone way over the top, IMHO.

College athletes, shouldn't be coddled the way they are, pampered, given the sun, moon and stars. They get a chance to go to a school that MOST would not qualify for academically. That's enough right there, but they get better tutoring, better food, preferred class schedules to minimize time lost to practice/games - they get to see a good part of the country. They really don't NEED these palatial facilities that are going up.

Coaches shouldn't be paid what they are. That hurts the overall university, because when you pay Coach Jock so much, you naturally have to start throwing money at Deans, and Dept Heads and key faculty, just to keep them happy, and just to keep them.

All that drives up costs to attend for the regular students, which has gotten out of hand and is on a pace to make college a country club like luxury, or leave them with so much debt they will have to live at home forever. Both scenarios are ridiculous.

It has gone far beyond where it needs to be, and as with all other bubbles, it eventually pops.

Its popping now.
